Position Summary: The Nurse Practitioner - Urology is responsible for diagnosing and treating urological diseases, injuries, and other disorders. Also works to promote good health and prevent illness. Provides continuing and comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventative services to all, regardless of sex, age, or type of problem, be it biological, behavioral, or social. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for completing all duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Education :

Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Nurse Practitioner required.

Experience :

Previous experience in urology preferred but not required.

Required Licensure/Certification(s) :

New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners License required. Current appropriate certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc. (if not current upon hire, must be obtained within three (3) months of hire).

Essential Job Competencies and Standards of Performance Familiarity with urological conditions such as recurrent UTIs, atrophic vaginitis, BPH, elevated PSA, overactive bladder, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary retention, erectile dysfunction and urological cancers. Provides patient care in the outpatient setting, including patient assessment, review of systems, history and physical, ordering diagnostic testing, formulating differential diagnoses, developing plans of care, prescribing medications, and recommending follow-up care and subsequent visits. Performs general urologic procedures like urethral and suprapubic catheterization, urodynamic studies, posterior tibial nerve stimulation, pessary management, etc. Consults with Urologist for the care of patients, to schedule surgical procedures, for questions about alternate courses of treatment, handling complicated cases, and in cases where patients have adverse reactions or unexpected complications. Counsels patients regarding preventative care, therapeutic options, the risks and benefits of recommended testing and medications, and other patient needs. Assists Urologist with pre-surgical patient evaluation, education, and preparations as well as post-surgical patient follow-up. Reviews results from patient lab and diagnostic testing, responds to critical values in an urgent fashion, communicates results to patients and physicians, and orders follow-up testing as appropriate. Documents clearly in patients charts all findings, orders, medications prescribed, and plan for follow-up. Records all patient interactions and services delivered for billing purposes including lab tests, procedures, evaluation and management services, appropriate diagnosis codes, medications administered and medical supplies given. May occasionally assist with urological inpatient and postoperative consultation. Maintains all required licenses and certifications. Submits updated verifications to Human Resources (HR) upon receipt of updated documentation. Actively upholds RMCHCS Mission, Vision and Core Values. Follows all policies and procedures.
