This position provides physical labor toward the production of daily vessel operations, to include supporting terminal labor functions, cleaning and inspecting containers, assisting with the agricultural inspections, transfers and transloads, general maintenance work, and providing support to other operational departments. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

Experience performing heavy labor tasks, including lifting over 50 - 100lbs, and moving heavy objects, handling physically demanding activities.Ability to use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, and hammers.Ability to use a hand-held device.Basic English communication skills (verbal/written).Must have organizational and time management skills.Must have excellent interpersonal skills.Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.Ability to accurately process alpha/numeric information.Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, overnight, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 60 days of employment.Preferred

Experience operating small forklift; 5K to 10KDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary:

Assist in the Stevedoring department by working with forklift basket up to heights of around 14 feet to place or remove container hooks or strapping used for lifting containers, pipes and general cargo, secure cargo with chains/binders when preparing for lifting and strap cargo by utilizing lashings, container hooks, wire rope weighing more than 100 lbs. to assure safe operation.Utilizes a handheld computer to enter or scan container numbers and update container location.Assist Maintenance department with various functions including light painting, changing out our repairing damaged signage, light maintenance of the property to include general repair, and maintenance of terminal buildings, structures and exterior areas.Assist in TIR Lane with opening/closing doors, performing sweep outs/blow outs of containers, adding/removing damage tags, assisting the clerks as needed (passing out TIR tickets/running paperwork inside when the clerks are shorthanded, etc.), help with directing traffic during congestion, and keeping the area clean and clear of debris.Assist in the South Yard by manually lifting and placing wood on ground to prepare setup for cargo and securing cargo to various pieces of equipment such as chassis and mofettes being delivered to the vessel.Sweep, wash and clean empty containers.Inspects empty containers for damage.Tags all containers for either their readiness, need for repair, or washing.Moves office furniture within departments as needed.Operates a forklift to move parts/supplies for projects in terminal.Must maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.Maintains awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people checking equipment, etc.) at all times.Secondary

Assists with the various inspections by opening/closing container doors.Assist with twist lock repairs for vessel and terminal operations.Cross-trained in other functions to provide support to other operational departments as needed.Performs additional duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Subjection to physical and/or DOT Screening may be required along with other tests as applicable.The employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.The employee must exert an excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally and an excess of 50 lbs of force frequently.The employee must frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 110 lbs.The employee is required to frequently push and pull over 100 lbs.The employee is frequently required to bend forward, craw or twist, pinch, reach overhead, exercise eye-hand coordination, use repetitive wrist and foot motion, finger dexterity exercise and frequently eye-hand coordination.The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, reach forward, grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.The employee is occasionally required to climb, squat, balance, stoop, kneel crouch, crawl and smell.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Reports directly to the Terminal Operations Supervisor. May receive direction from the Supervisor/Foreman/Header of the assigned department. Does not exercise supervision over any position.

CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily outdoors; exposed to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity, and changing weather during day and night shifts.Indoor exposure to controlled temperatures.The employee continuously works near moving vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.).The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.Drive automated and stick vehicles, low to moderate vibration.Moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system.DISCLAIMER:
