Oncology Financial Navigator - Poughkeepsie, NY
Full-time, 40 hours - 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Summary:
The Oncology Financial Navigator will employ a proactive approach with patients and families, screening for financial stressors and barriers, identifying resources to help reduce patient financial toxicity and establishes a system to protect the revenue stream of the cancer program by optimizing reimbursement and reducing patient debt and charity write off's.
Responsibilities:
Obtain all required insurance prior authorizations for oral chemo and therapeutic medications prescribed by provider's; liaise with specialty and local pharmacies as well as pharmaceutical companies to coordinate medication delivery and provide continuous status updates to patients regarding their prescription drugs.Highlights gaps in coverage that will contribute to an increase in the patient's out-of-pocket expenses. As treatment changes are made and when additional costs are incurred the plan is updated/revised.Identify available co-pay, foundation, and pharmaceutical assistance and helps enroll, complete and submit applications to determine eligibility patients complete applications for financial assistance, pharmaceutical assistance, and government programs in a timely and HIPAA compliant manner.Submit patient claims and applications for financial assistance in a timely and HIPAA compliant manner.Regularly attend meetings with clinical staff and communicate all pertinent patient information regarding new treatment starts, treatment plan changes, and any urgent patient needs to the appropriate front office staff.Identifies, monitors and tracks underinsured and uninsured patients and patients with the largest gaps in coverage.Provides assistance with questions about billing, balances owed and provides counseling to patients and families about covered services and financial responsibilities for cancer treatment. Refers to Nuvance Health Financial/billing department if appropriate.Education, Skills & Experience:
Essential: Associate's Level Degree.Bachelor's Degree preferred.Experience in Financial Navigation/case management preferred.Required: Microsoft Office Word and Excel, excellent customer service and organizational skills.Prior healthcare, business skills preferred. Desired: 2 to 3 years job related experience preferred.
Salary: $22.25 - $41.42 hourly, commensurate with experience.
