Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Transitional Care

Akron General's Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is a med/surg unit that cares for adult and geriatric patients who need treatment for a variety of diagnoses, such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, diabetes, GI bleed, sepsis, renal failure, cellulitis, DVT, pancreatitis, ETOH withdrawal, UTI, and altered mental status. As an LPN, you will work under the supervision of a physician, Registered Nurse or Office Manager to provide top-quality nursing care to orthopaedic patients. An LPN in this role is familiar with obtaining vital signs, preparing exam rooms, administering medication, scheduling, answering telephones and assisting physicians during treatments, exams and tests.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Collect, document and report patient data and observations.

Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.

Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.

Perform routine laboratory tests.

Educate patients and family members.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.

Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN M-IV or LPN Meds).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Drug certified by a program approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

One year of patient care experience.

Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.

Involves extensive standing and walking.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
