Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Provides care in the Department of Radiology.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
Provide patient care in the department of radiology.Work Collaboratively with the director of cardiothoracic radiology, director of interventional radiology, and chair of radiology.Communicate effectively with radiology team members and referring departments.Obtain patient consults, histories, physical examinations, and follow-up clinical care.Obtain Informed consent from patient or responsible party.Order and/or administer radiologic contrast (ie for CT, MRI, ultrasound).Order pertinent tests and therapeutic/medications including writing prescriptions.Provide pre-end post-procedural instructions to patients or their representative.Select pertinent radiology protocols for radiologic studies/procedures.Maintain clinical records in medical records for patient encounters.Monitor heart rate and administer rate control medications prior to coronary CT angiograms to ensure the study is done effectively and in a timely manner.Perform and assist radiologists with interventional radiological procedures in accordance with established state guidelines and within limitations of departmental credentialing, after documentation of procedure experience.Perform image-guided PICC and midline placement, repositioning, and removal: image-guided paracentesis or thoracentesis.Serve as first assist in radiological procedures when radiology residents or fellow are not available.May have on-call duties for interventional radiology consults based on department's future need.Participate in inter-disciplinary meetings to improve patient care, quality, safety, and throughput.Maintain board certification, state license, DEA certification, radiation safety learning modules, and state/board CME requirements
Minimum Qualifications1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; and,2. Current certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); and,3. Two years of full time, satisfactory clinical experiences as a Physician Assistant.
