Networkmaine,

a unit of the University of Maine System, is seeking applications for a

Network Engineer I . This full-time, regular position is part of a team that supports all voice, video, and data communication services for the University of Maine System (UMS), the Maine School and Library Network (MSLN), and Maine's Research and Education Network (MaineREN). The responsibilities include designing, installing, maintaining, and configuring voice, video, and data equipment and software and researching and conducting assigned projects involving emerging technologies. The incumbent will need to perform these functions independently under general direction with a certain degree of creativity and latitude.

Salary:

The normal hiring range is $60,000 to $65,000, and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.

Job Description

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with evenings and weekends as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:Understanding of carrier and/or enterprise-level network architectures and hardware.Knowledge of and experience with the operation of data networks and associated transports/protocols.Understanding of voice and video technologies transmitted over data networks including protocols and standards.Experience with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.Fundamental understanding of network security.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Preferred:

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.Good oral and written communication skills.Ability to program in a high-level language.Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or three to five years of technical education and/or experience with data networking and communications.Valid driver's license.Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.HOW TO APPLYMaterials must be submitted via "Apply Now.
