Goal-Oriented Innovator: Do you thrive on understanding desired outcomes and designing strategies to achieve them?Adaptable Problem Solver: Can you embrace a certain level of ambiguity while you and your team determine the best approaches and technologies to add value?Collaborative Team Player: Do you enjoy working closely with team members and our technology customers to achieve shared goals?Technical Expert: Are you skilled in engineering, architecting, and supporting Linux/Windows systems?Proactive Guardian: Can you help define and implement log aggregation technologies to keep us informed about system issues and threats?Responsibilities:Design, analyze, document, create, test, automate, secure and manage efficient and robust enterprise production, development and staging systems from architecture through service, including prototypes to advance institutional needsWork with a variety of vendors, partners, teams, and customers to define enterprise hardware, software, cloud, and other system functional specificationsAs needed, perform cost-benefit analyses and explore options and alternatives on proposed systems, upgrades and improvementsIdentify and implement designs that reduce complexityCreate and update online support documentation using online tools and proceduresAnalyze tools and methods and identify areas for improvementPerform regular audits of security, performance, and compliance on systems and softwareDocument and respond to escalated system/design level service requests and resolve incidentsProvide user-friendly, secure, accurate and dependable systems and support to all persons (including technical peers) while providing follow-up to ensure their satisfaction with the systems, services, and solutions renderedStay up to date on industry directions and opportunities to advise USU on systems and services futuresIdentify system support / administrative issues that can be automated or transitioned to service desk personnel and help them develop the skills needed to support such systems and issuesAdhere to the IT Core Competencies (https://it.usu.edu/files/ITCoreCompetencies.pdf)Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:The position will be hired at either level I, level II, level III or Senior based on the following qualifications and duties assigned:
Systems Administrator/Engineer I:Bachelors degree in management information systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Systems Administrator/Engineer II:Bachelors degree in management information systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus two years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Systems Administrator/Engineer III:Bachelors degree in management information systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus four years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Systems Administrator/Engineer SR:Bachelors degree in management information systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus six years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
