Description

This position provides guidance for the existing data network and network security. This position identifies, researches, and disseminates new technologies related to data network and network security. It directs and participates in the complex and mission critical analysis of the network and network security. It will identify, evaluate, support, and solve complex issues associated with the wired and wireless networks and network security.

• Independently administers, and maintains networking and network security equipment, management software, and resources in a complex network environment; coordinates the design, documentation, configuration, troubleshooting, operation, modification, and repair of networking hardware and software.

• Perform complex analysis and extensive problem resolution for networking and network security hardware and software. Evaluate and monitor networking equipment.

• Leads development and implementation of network operations project

• Works with campus project partners to define networking need

• Provides direction on utilizing networking tools for simple management tasks.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Experience: 3 years of experience with large, complex, and multifaceted layer 2 and layer 3 network systems, computer operating systems, network hardware and security devices, monitoring tools and network management and network security hardware and software.

Preferred Experience: NAC systems such as Fortinet FortiNAC and Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager, HP/Aruba switches, Aruba Networks wireless controllers and access points, Juniper routers and switches Palo-Alto firewall and VPN, Monitoring systems such as PRTG, Airwave, IMC. Experience with Azure and AWS cloud computing.

Job Skills: Extensive ability to logically analyze network problems and usage patterns using various software tools. Ability to program switches and routers. Broad knowledge of various computer operating systems. High degree of knowledge IEEE 802 standard data networks including specific knowledge of 802.1x, 802.1q, 802.3 and 802.11, a complete understanding of TCP/IP protocols. Working knowledge of current networking hardware, knowledge of wiring and fiber systems. Ability to use test equipment including, network management systems, Network access control systems, protocol analyzers, SNMP management devices. Ability to think logically and critically. Ability to systematically troubleshoot complex problems.

Special requirement:

The person in this position will be required to have a cellular phone and to supply the number to their supervisor. The University does not pay for any employee's cell phone or cell phone service.
