Sargent & Lundys Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. What does this mean? You can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects cleaning up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserving our countrys nuclear deterrent. Sargent & Lundys personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. This mission-critical work is meaningful and challenging work you can be proud of.You will be assigned to work on one or more project teams to assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. The projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to existing facilities, structures, systems, and components. In addition to personally performing and contributing to the engineering efforts, you will help to coordinate resources from multiple Sargent & Lundy (S&L) offices. It is anticipated that much of the work will be associated with the DOE facilities in the western United States and their nuclear facilities. Working under the direction of the Systems and Licensing Support Engineering Manager who is based in Richland, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your skills in hazardous event analysis, alternatives analysis, life cycle evaluations, systems engineering, project management, and client management.Key responsibilities include:Close coordination with and management of client interfacesTechnical support in formulating, planning, and executing engineering analysis activitiesResource planning, coordination of resources, and assistance with integration of project participantsSupport efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budgetCoordinate systems design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirementsPrepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely and meet client requirements and S&L formatsPrepare safety requirement evaluations for safety-related systems, structures, and componentsFacilitate meetings with 30+ participants and generate the associated reportsEvaluate designs for factory, construction, and operational testing requirements
Qualifications:Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.Essential skills and experience:This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited engineering programCandidates shall possess a working knowledge of operations in facilities involving hazardous operations such as DOE nuclear facilitiesCandidate shall have at least 10 years of nuclear facility experienceGood verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills are requiredExperience applying nuclear safety requirements to systems, structures, and componentsValued but not required skills and experience:An understanding of the practical application of engineering and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project designFamiliarity with NQA-1 Quality Assurance programs and proceduresSystem, structure, and component testing experienceProcess Hazard Analysis (lead or scribe) experienceCore Unreviewed Safety Question evaluator (or equivalent) experienceSargent & Lundy is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
