The Division of Hematology and Oncology has strong collaborative ties with other divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine, the Department of Cancer Biology, the Department of Environmental Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy. Our combined faculty currently has strengths in signal transduction, ferroptosis, lipidomics, metabolomics, mouse cancer modeling, autophagy, mitochondrial dynamics, cellular stress response pathways, novel cancer treatments, resistance to targeted therapy, tumor immunobiology, pharmaceutics, and pharmacokinetics. Disease interests span from solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, cancer prevention, and cancer control. In addition, ample opportunities exist at the university for access to resources in immunobiology, laboratory medicine, transfusion medicine, cellular therapy and cancer biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, the Hoxworth Blood Center, and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

The Division of Hematology and Oncology is undergoing a major expansion and is seeking an individual to fill a faculty role in the broad area of cancer basic research. This recruitment is part of a significant investment made under the stewardship of John C. Byrd, MD, Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, to serve our academic mission and to achieve NCI-designation. We seek candidates focusing their research on head and neck cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, and leukemia, as these research areas align closely with clinical programs. This recruitment focuses on three main programmatic areas: Immuno-oncology, identification of novel therapeutic targets and/or mechanisms of drug resistance and outcomes and disparities research.

Essential FunctionsThis full-time faculty research position will require the candidate to lead a cancer research team. Responsibilities include the planning of research programs, the design and interpretation of experiments, training and mentoring of trainees and seeking extramural funding with grants and research contracts. The research team may include research associates, undergraduate or graduate students and/or post-doctoral fellows.

Minimum RequirementsPhD and/or MD degree.

Required ExperiencePost-doctoral experience with a record of funding appropriate to their career stage (i.e., K99, K23, R01 or equivalent awards) and a scholarly record to support and maintain an independent research program funded by extramural grant support.

Additional Qualifications ConsideredApplicants with interest in associate or full professor faculty rank require evidence of peer reviewed funding (two or more active R01 or equivalent grants).
