Sr. Principal RA/Associate Scientist/Scientist I, Protein Chemistry

Position Summary:Protein Chemistry provides expertise in protein design, production, and analytics to support the discovery and early development of bio-therapeutics across disease states. This position will design and execute experiments towards the production of high-quality protein reagents. Furthermore, the position will have responsibilities in developing and implementing protein production technologies.

Who is Omeros?Omeros is an innovative biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering, developing and commercializing small-molecule and protein therapeutics for large-market and orphan indications targeting inflammation, immunologic diseases (e.g., complement-mediated diseases) and cancers. Omeros' lead MASP-2 inhibitor narsoplimab targets the lectin pathway of complement and is the subject of a biologics license application pending before FDA for the treatment of hematopoietic stem cell transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy. Narsoplimab is also in multiple late-stage clinical development programs focused on other complement-mediated disorders, including IgA nephropathy, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, and COVID-19. OMS906, Omeros' inhibitor of MASP-3, is in a Phase 1 clinical trial.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Develops and implements core protein production technologies towards the generation and screening of high-quality protein reagents.Maintains data integrity with detailed and up-to-date electronic lab notebooks and data documents.Interprets and presents findings at the group and department level.Collaboratively guides efforts toward selection of candidate therapeutic modalities in matrix environment.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required:With a protein sciences focus, minimum education requirements include either a BS degree with a minimum of 3+ years (8+ years) of relevant industry experience; a MS degree with 1+ years (4+ years) of relevant industry experience; a PhD with 0-2 years of relevant experience; (level will be based on relevant years of experience, skills, and knowledge the candidate has).

Experience applying technical skills towards recombinant protein expression, such as vector construction, use of expression systems (E. coli and HEK) and protein purification (AKTA, Chromatography).

Experience with determination of protein quality attributes, including purity, size, aggregation state, and endotoxin.

Experience with biophysical and protein analytical techniques such as: UPLC (Reversed Phase, aSEC, aCEX, aHIC), Mass-spec, SPR, or Octet.

Behavioral Competencies Required:Builds collaborative relationships at the group and interdepartmental levels.Provides interpretation of production and functional relationship results to help guide selection of therapeutic modalities.

Physical Demands Required:Intermittent physical activity including bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 20 lbs.May encounter prolonged periods of sitting or standing.This position requires working around hazardous materials.

Compensation and BenefitsOmeros is proud to offer a competitive total compensation package designed to support the lives of our employees and their families. The wage scale for the Sr. Principal RA/Associate Scientist/Scientist I, Protein Chemistry role is $95,000 - $128,000. Salaries will be determined based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience relevant to the role. Employees are offered medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with a company match. Employees accrue three weeks of vacation and 80 hours of sick time on an annual basis and receive twelve paid holidays throughout the calendar year. This position is eligible for bonus and stock options.
