Purpose Statement/Position Summary:

The Assistant General Counsel serves within the Office of the General Counsel of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and provides legal support to CHLA, in order to advance its mission with an overall objective of minimizing organizational liability. The Office of the General Counsel of Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is seeking a sharp, self-motivated attorney with at least 10+ years of litigation to manage pre and litigation matters (demand letters, charges, and civil lawsuits) across all legal areas - employment, regulatory, workers’ compensation, and general civil litigation. While a significant part of the role involves supervising outside counsel (determining case strategy, managing cost, and working with internal stakeholders to remediate vulnerabilities), the role also requires independently handling various prelitigation/litigation activities, including but not limited to drafting certain demand letters, managing subpoenas and directing certain privileged investigations. Additionally, this position provides advise and counsel to stakeholders to minimize organizational legal risk and ensure compliance with laws. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to take quick, thoughtful action in a fast-paced environment is required. This role reports directly to the General Counsel.Ideal candidates will possess or demonstrate the following:

• Track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams and providing proactive, solution-oriented advice to stakeholders on a number of legal and regulatory issues.• Experience with regulatory bodies (e.g., OCR, DOL, OSHA) and government investigation is preferred, but not required.• Experience either handling or managing employment and general civil litigation required; general and professional liability experience is a plus.• Experience with arbitrations and all stages of litigation, including trial.• Ability to proactively approach all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, settlement negotiations, and trial and appellate strategies.• Experience providing labor and employment counsel advice to stakeholders is a plus. Demonstrated ability to communicate legal risks and recommendations to senior leaders.• Resourcefulness, strong intellectual curiosity, and ability to quickly learn complex systems and their legal framework• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering• Experience working with healthcare entities is a plus.Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

10+ years of litigation experience including employment litigation working at a law firm, the government, and/or in-house setting, or in healthcare setting.

Healthcare or government experience is strongly preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

Juris Doctorate degree. Excellent academic credentials.
