The Biostatistics Center is seeking a Director of Information Technology to direct all aspects of the information systems and technology needs and requirements for an off-campus medical research center consisting of over 100 faculty and research staff, supporting a large portfolio of NIH sponsored research with thousands of external users. The position assists other directors with administration of the Biostatistics Center to include assisting with Center management and policy formulation. Advises the Center Director and Executive Committee on IT and other Center issues. May serve as member of or reports to the Center's Executive and Steering Committees. Serves as an ex-officio member of the Center Strategic Systems Development Advisory Committee. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance and determines future staffing needs.

Essential DutiesMaintains an in-depth knowledge of the full scope of information systems, networking, security, and data center operations. Develops long-term information systems plan for the organization. Serves as chief architect for all aspects of the organization's IT infrastructure.Directs the design, development, implementation and coordination of all information systems functions within the organization. Assesses new computing technologies and their feasibility for use within the environment. Develops and implements computing facility policy and procedures and space requirements.Develops, implements and reviews information systems standard operating policies and procedures, including systems and data network security, data protection and backups, disaster recovery and systems configuration and design.Develops well-documented procedures for application systems and processes, including standard practices, user documentation, and regulatory and compliance documents. Monitors compliance according to industry standards for areas such as information security and privacy, as well as guidelines for good clinical practice.Responsible for all information systems related procurement including purchasing of new equipment and maintenance of all existing equipment including personal computers, data center servers and mainframe systems.Responsible for all aspects of design, procurement, installation, management, support and continual operation of the organization's information systems including servers, networking equipment and cabling as well as security firewalls.Responsible for timely upgrades of all data center servers, including hardware, software and operating system upgrades as well as patching. Responsible for installation and maintenance of all desktop systems, software and operating systems and patching.Provides technical support to the staff and researchers and ensures that the necessary information systems infrastructure is available to meet business needs.Responsible for design, installation, management and operation of the organization's data center facilities including systems providing cooling, electrical, fire suppression and monitoring.Manages the proper expenditure of the organizational IT budget. Procures all computer related equipment, software and supplies. Researches and recommends reputable vendors and manufacturers and seeks out the most cost-effective source. Maintains a relationship and negotiates directly with hardware/software vendors.Manages information systems staff in the planning, development, deployment, operation, information systems for large clinical studies. Manages the performance and goals, assigns tasks, redistributes work, recommends solutions; evaluates their work, writes and delivers performance reviews, recommends merit increases and promotions and has hire/fire responsibility.Advises the Center Director and Executive Committee on IT and other Center issues. Advises Administrative Director, Administrative Managers, faculty and other investigators on IT and other Center issues. May serve in a key leadership role as a member of the Center's Executive Committee, Steering Committee, BSC Strategic Planning Committee and various other organizational committees.Enhances professional knowledge and skills by attending seminars, workshops, conferences and reviewing published literature.Provides technical guidance to various organizational units.Performs other work-related duties, as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum QualificationsQualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 10 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 8 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred QualificationsExcellent oral and written communication skills.Extensive knowledge of a broad range of information systems including IBM System z, Intel servers and PC platforms, networking infrastructure design and security, database management and high level programming languages.Thorough knowledge of operating systems such as IBM z/VM, Linux and Microsoft Windows.

Hiring Range$123,094.34 - $240,033.96
