About the clinician's workday
For 1st Call, the CRNA is on call from home and must be within 30 minutes of the hospital to respond to urgent cases such as C-sections, epidurals, and other emergent situations. The 1st call person works a full day, manages one operating room from 5 PM onwards, and handles any urgent or emergent cases. After completing their shift, they have the next day off. Their schedule typically runs from 7 AM on Monday to 7 AM on Tuesday, with Tuesday off, returning to work on Wednesday. For 2nd Call, the CRNA stays until only one operating room is active, handling epidurals, intubations in the ER, or any C-sections. They often finish by late morning the following day, and the 1st call person takes the next day off. On Fridays, cardiac cases typically finish by 7 PM, though there might be calls for C-sections and emergencies.
