This person will represent ES on business affairs in the School and UM Community. Our ideal candidate is an experienced, people-focused leader with big picture vision and the ability to create an achievable road map to get there. We are seeking a customer service focused individual who can partner with the Chair, ES and Marsal colleagues to create an effective structure to support smooth operations. This position will report to the Chair of the Educational Studies Department.Department Leadership (30%)

Provide leadership for a positive, healthy office culture that supports professional growthServe as strategic partner to the department chair and other departmental leadersProvide a vision for ES office direction, including but not limited to initiating, designing, organizing and leading short- and long-term planning and new projects to achieve and advance department goalsCoordinate and lead office projectsInterpret policies and procedures to ensure complianceRepresent ES in university- and school-wide spaces and committeesHuman Resources (25%)

Hire, train and supervise Educational Studies administrative teamLead performance review process for staffCoordinate office coverage, roles and responsibilitiesPrepare and administer hiring and appointment paperwork for lecturers, student hourly appointments, and other appointmentsAdminister GEO Graduate Student Instructor/Graduate Student Research Asst. appointments for the departmentLead Departmental On-boarding for new ES faculty and staffApprove timesheets for administrative staff and serve as delegate approver for temporary hourly appointments, as neededFinance (20%)

Provide budgeting and expense projectionsEstablish controls to maintain budget oversightMaintain the operating budget and provide regular forecasting reports for Chair, including reports such as general, Rackham block grants, and gift fundsManage scholarly development budget, including the review of all faculty travel and discretionary accountsReview business transactions for compliance with relevant policies and regulations, provide departmental authorizationProvide guidance and troubleshoot with sponsored fund expendituresPrepare enrollment and budget reportsCurriculum (10%)

Organize and manage course scheduling, enrollments and approvals.Prepare course schedule in coordination with multi-year teaching plans and chair inputIdentify instructional gapsProvide finalized course schedule and revisions to SOE RegistrarCreate CARFs, as necessaryDetermine need for course announcementsKeep chair apprised of enrollmentsHelp navigate course-related issues (in collaboration with SOE Registrar)Communications (10%)

Develop and distribute ES quarterly electronic newsletter & annual highlights newsletter w/ solicitationCoordinate with Marsal Communications on social mediaManage programmatic content on SoE websiteOversee development and distribute of ES publicity communicationsAlumni Relations (5%)

Coordinate with the MA and PhD program managers to foster strong relationships with alumniWork with Alumni Records Office (ARO) to ensure ES group is preserved and propagated with new graduatesLinkedInManage and promote membershipPost ES news and event itemsShare ES alumni newsPost doctoral career-relevant informationAdditional duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements
