Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Read Shift Carefully:

  • Variable Shifts, initially they will work 1st shift 7:00am – 3:30pm so they can become familiarized with our operations and policies, then 2nd 2:30pm – 10:30pm or 3rd Shift 10:30pm – 6:30am
  • No RTO the first two weeks of an assignment.

Position Summary:

  • Mechanical Engineer with experience in the operation of Boiler, Generators, Heating/Chilled Water Systems, Medical Gases.
  • Under direct supervision of the Plant Operations & Maintenance Manager when performing planning, organizing and coordination, and supervision of minor projects and general corrective and preventive maintenance of equipment and building systems throughout the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital campus as directed.
  • Operates and maintains stationary boilers, chillers, electrical and mechanical equipment throughout the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital campus.

Education/Experience/Training:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Steam license preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as Operating Engineer.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
  • Maintenance and repair experience of major equipment.
  • Require a valid California Driver’s License.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  1. Safeguards and preserves the confidentiality of patient’s protected health information in accordance with State and Federal (HIPAA) regulatory requirements, hospital and departmental policies.
  2. Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices per policy.
  3. With consideration to age, employee utilizes the approved process to resolve biophysical, psychological, educational and environmental needs of patient/significant other when administering care.
  4. Operates, maintains, inspect and performs repairs and mechanical alterations to stationary, mechanical and electrical equipment.
  5. Maintains logs of plant operations and records maintenance repairs to equipment.
  6. Tests boiler water, cooling tower and closed loop systems to maintain in proper balance.
  7. Inspects, operates, and maintains the life support systems of the hospital, including emergency generators, medical gas systems, vacuum system and medical air.
  8. Has thorough understanding and working knowledge of all emergency systems.
  9. Knowledge of all utility shut offs and isolation valves to enable quick response in case of an emergency.
  10. Observes regulations imposed by Local, State, Hospital and other regulatory agencies.
  11. May be required to handle routine maintenance responsibilities.
  12. All other duties as assigned by Plant Operations Manager/Director of Facilities Support.
