I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in Washington DC. GW Law was established in 1865 as the Columbian College Department of Law and in those nearly 160 years, GW Law has become a highly ranked and respected institution. This position reports to the Director of Admissions. The position represents the Law School both on campus and off campus in order to 1) support the development and implementation of recruitment strategies, 2) evaluate the effectiveness of admissions and recruitment initiatives, and 3) review admissions applications and make recommendations regarding admissions decisions. The core responsibilities of this role are to 1) contribute to and execute strategic recruitment initiatives, 2) analyze recruitment data, 3) holistically evaluate applications and make recommendations for admissions decisions, 4) determine eligibility for special admissions programs, and 5) present recommendations to final review authority.

This position plans, executes, and represents the university both on campus and off campus at events, including information sessions, interview programs, and law school fairs. This position leads special programs in support of admissions efforts, including, but not limited to: 1) preview days, a series of on-campus events for nearly 400 admitted student guests; 2) other prospective/admitted student events on campus and throughout the country; and 3) individual presentations before pre-law and other groups.

This position leads the Law School’s volunteer student ambassador program, including recruiting, training, and advising current students regarding outreach to prospective and admitted students.

This position has communications-oriented components, including 1) the review and editing of Admissions web pages, 2) digital outreach to prospective students, 3) the development of hard copy and online prospective and admitted student materials, and 4) input on the Admissions Office’s social media program.

Finally, this position is also the liaison to our alumni admission’s ambassadors, who manage a large outreach program to welcome admitted students.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. boxes.
  • Ability to travel required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD preferred.
  • Previous experience in graduate/professional admissions in higher education.
  • Excellent customer service, including advising and recruitment skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with technology and related applications (for example, LSAC’s Unite database, Emma, Drupal, Banner, Concur).
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities.
  • Experience in event planning/management.
  • Experience/comfortability working in a fast-paced environment.

Hiring Range

$64,483.58 - $106,415.52
