The Manager of Communications & External Relations will be responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating communications, marketing, and alumni and donor relations operations for the Fischell Department of Bioengineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering in an effort to strengthen and advance the department’s identity and reputation among general, academic, industry, and government audiences. The Manager will work directly with faculty, staff, and students in coordinating the promotion of research, departmental, and student successes, and will advertise the department’s suite of academic programs, particularly graduate degrees and the new B.S. in Biocomputational Engineering. This position will work closely with the Chair of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering, along with the A. James Clark School of Engineering’s Media Relations and Development offices, in managing and expanding bioengineering’s external and donor relations portfolio and initiatives.Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.Experience:5 years professional experience in the areas of communications or public relations.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing individuals, large projects and external vendors.Editing, interpersonal, management and organizational skills are essential.A proven ability to develop, manage and market a successful communications program utilizing writing, graphic design, event production, web content development, social media and electronic communications.Ability to generate creative, original ideas and to independently manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.Preferences:Competence in such software packages as the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Design Suite, Canva, and Mailchimp.Previous experience with web content management, particularly in the Drupal open-source environment, is valued but not required.Additional Information:In addition to submitting a cover letter, current resume, and the names, addresses, and phone numbers of three professional references, all applicants are requested to submit at least 2, but no more than 3, samples that demonstrate their writing skills (please upload to the Supplemental Document 1 section).
