Bachelor's degree in a science or business-related field and five (5) years professional experience in university technology transfer, grant/contract administration, university research administration, business administration, or related field.Job Duties

Work with partners to learn and understand how a broad range of research and clinical departments and industry functions turning ideas into movement/action in a courteous and timely manner.Lead our partners, with the help of our collective team and resources, through all aspects of the technology commercialization process.Assist partners with implementing ideas and assist with the risk and stress.Establish and build relationships with key internal and external partners.Communicate effectively with our internal and external partners to garner relationships, brainstorm, and find solutions.Perform challenging problem-solving for creative solutions.Support the team and grow your own skills and abilities.Interact with university faculty to clarify descriptions of new technologies and obtain information concerning the development of intellectual property and its commercial potential.Assist in the initial evaluation of new intellectual properties, including conducting the due diligence required to ensure the university possesses unencumbered rights to such intellectual properties and, if not, identify and manage those encumbrances (e.g., external joint owners, revenue-sharing obligations with third parties, etc.).Manage and market intellectual property developed by university investigators/inventors; prepare marketing materials. Identify companies best suited for commercial development of intellectual property consistent with the university's licensing strategy. Perform follow-up on licensing opportunities.Develop policies, procedures, and strategies for assessment and management of intellectual properties.Draft and negotiate license agreements for intellectual properties in areas of biotechnology, medical devices, and copyrighted material (including software) arising from UT Southwestern's research enterprise, up to and including those license agreements that underpin the establishment of UT Southwestern startups.Draft and negotiate Sponsored Research Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Visiting Scientist Agreements, Data Use Agreements, and Confidentiality Agreements in compliance with law, Regent's Rules, and UT Southwestern policy.Partner with the Business Development team to develop marketing strategies, identify potential licensees, and contacts within companies as they commercialize UT Southwestern assets.Actively participate in UT Southwestern, local and regional events/activities promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property awareness.Engage and lead activities that promote or develop and enhance the formation of startup companies from UT Southwestern technologies.Work with the university's finance and accounting functions to ensure that the license revenue and sponsored research funding received through the agreements managed by the OTD are distributed in accordance with contractual obligations and university policy.Perform other duties as assigned.This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code *51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.UT Southwestern Medical Center is committed to an educational and working environment that provides equal opportunity to all members of the University community.
