Interventional Radiology Technologist - Neuro - Full-time Days

The

Radiographer-Interventional

The Radiographer-Interventional provides imaging services to assist in diagnosis or treatment of inpatients and or outpatients. This role performs radiographic and related procedures to demonstrate vascular structures for interpretation and/or therapeutic interventional by or at the request of a licensed practitioner.

The Radiographer-Interventional will exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. This individual provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Performs vascular interventional, neuro interventional and spine interventional imaging procedures.

Evaluates the request for radiographic service and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.

Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.

Prepares patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.

Operates imaging equipment and accessories.

Selects appropriate program for desired protocol.

Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.

Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate interventional imaging images.

Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, age-specific sensitivities, and “patients' first” guidelines. Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.

Evaluates the resultant images in comparison with industry standard (Merrill’s’ Atlas of Roentgen graphic Positions) and takes corrective action if needed.

Provides patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce the patient’s anxiety and enhance his/her comfort with and tolerance of the procedure.

Performs imaging procedures in accordance with safe radiation safety practices as determined by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to limit radiation exposure to patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team.

Documents imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to ensure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking.

Monitors stock of supplies in imaging rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.

Reports incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon as possible.

Provides imaging services of optimum quality with optimum productivity and customer service.

Collects data to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.

Participates in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to enhance the quality of service to customers.

Identifies areas for potential improvement and recommends corrective actions.

Ensures the continuity of care through effective interactions with other departments (i.e.: surgery, emergency department, registration, patient escort, nursing services).

Qualifications:

Required:

Current Illinois license through IEMA.

ARRT registry in radiography.

CPR certification (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).

Graduate of an accredited radiography program.

Physical Demands: A physical demands test provides an objective way to identify if a candidate can meet the essential tasks for the job the candidate has applied for at Northwestern Medicine. The testing protocol was established with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Job Role Requirement: 50 lbs lift 36 inch wide carry; Push/pull 50 lbs.

Preferred:

Advanced certification in Vascular Interventional Radiology.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

1-3 years Interventional Imaging experience.
