the transformative opportunity it provides to a large and diverse student body; its public mission and commitment to equity and social justice; and its roots in the California experience, animated by such values as innovation, questioning the status quo, and respect for the environment and nature.We are looking for equity-minded applicants who represent the full diversity of California and who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community.At UC Berkeley, we believe that learning is a fundamental part of working, and our goal is for everyone on the Berkeley campus to feel supported and equipped to realize their full potential.Departmental OverviewThe University of California Police Department provides a full range of law enforcement services in support of the academic and public service missions of the University of California, serving a diverse community of more than 43,000 students and 14,000 faculty & staff in the vibrant City of Berkeley.We are interested in ethical, intelligent, creative and motivated candidates who possess the desire and talent required to address the unique challenges of our urban campus environment.Application Review DateThe First Review Date for this job is: February 12, 2024.ResponsibilitiesManages systems and services for a department of moderate size with multiple, integrated systems.Makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of new computer hardware, software and services.Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, modify and support operating systems, software requirements, databases, utilities and/or tools.Applies and manages complex security configurations and firewalls.Troubleshoot and resolve the most complex issues.Designs and coordinates workflow of support requests, setting priorities and tracking resolution.Ensures compliance with and provides input to service level agreements.Supervise and coordinate team projects, tasks, staffing, training for UCPD, Berkeley - IT staff.Analyzes, develops, modifies, debugs, deploys and evaluates complex software and scripts.Performs complex data analysis and analyzes the design and use of complex data sources.Monitors and employs source code control techniques and configuration management.Performs complex testing of software to ensure proper operation and conformance to test plans department policy and procedure.Implements release management.Applies advanced concepts in working on moderately complex to complex projects.Initiates, designs and communicates with Command Staff personnel regarding system concerns.Resolves procedural and technical issues in the context of department policies and procedures.Interacts with teams of advanced IT professionals as a proactive member.Serves as technical lead for projects.Trains users.Negotiates project plans with stakeholders.Identifies, evaluates and develops complex systems, processes and procedures.Creates complex specifications for systems to meet department and end-user requirements.Documents complex software and processes.Creates and executes project plans.Performs complex data management.Required QualificationsExperience as a Windows server administrator.8-10 years' experience in computing systems, physical and VM servers, personal computer hardware, network, and software problem diagnosis.Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.Must have strong knowledge of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance.Intermediate knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.Experience with firewall administration, antivirus and anti-malware software.Experience with MS-SQL Server.Education/Training:Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge, skills and abilities associated with identifying systems-related issues.Experience with Active Directory domain administration.Experience with virtual computing, especially VMware.Experience with database design / administration.Supervisory experience.Salary & BenefitsFor information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University, please visit the University of California's Compensation & Benefits website.The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $85,800.00 - $158,200.00.How to ApplyTo apply, please submit your resume and cover letter.Conviction History BackgroundThis is a designated position requiring fingerprinting and a background check due to the nature of the job responsibilities.Driving RequiredA valid driver's license and DMV check for driving record is required.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
