As a member of the Division of Nursing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in the NICU and Ambulatory specialty areas.Position OverviewThe Nurse Educator acts as a clinical consultant and resource while closely collaborating with Nursing leaders, clinical specialists, physicians, preceptors, nursing staff, students, and external agencies. In this pivotal role, you will design and implement orientation and career advancement programs, lead research initiatives to enhance clinical practices, foster effective relationships across departments and institutions, utilize advanced teaching methods to educate and mentor individuals and groups, and oversee educational and quality improvement programs for our dedicated staff and students. Join us in shaping the future of healthcare education and nursing excellence!Department Highlights (NICU)Our 36 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level III-B NICU. As a Level III-B NICU, we offer a high level of care for premature and ill newborns. With an annual average of 750 infant admissions, our nursing team has cared for a wide range of conditions including: extreme prematurity, gastroschisis, myelomeningocele, diaphragmatic hernia, and hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Our Special Mom Special Baby (SMSB) program supports a unique partnership between Obstetrics and Children's National Medical Center. The obstetrical service provides coordinated, focused pregnancy care for mothers who themselves have congenital health issues or who are carrying babies with congenital issues. Our multidisciplinary team consists of neonatologists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, and social workers.Key ResponsibilitiesDesigns, implements, and evaluates designated learning and educational programs and consultative services.Assesses learning needs through formal and informal approaches to data collection to determine specific education needs of associates.Applies teaching techniques that promote critical thinking and evidence-based practice incorporating principles of adult learning theory.Plans and conducts orientation of new personnel to facilitate a new associate's transition to the practice environment and meeting competency assessment requirements in conformance with departmental objectives, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.Identifies and assesses learning needs and knowledge or skill gaps that require remediation and collaborates with unit leaders to promote critical thinking and competent patient care delivery.Collaborates with other departments, experts, and leaders, both internal and external to MedStar Health, to obtain information needed to pursue development of relevant learning programs.Why Join UsWork with a highly skilled, motivated, and committed team of professionals dedicated to excellence.
