Within the Business Department, the Compliance and Legal team serves in an advisory capacity to Belvedere's trading, operational, and technical functions by developing and implementing an effective compliance system throughout the organization, including providing legal and regulatory advice and counsel to all facets of the business and the firm’s growth initiatives.

Belvedere is seeking a highly qualified attorney to lead its legal team. Candidates will have experience working for a proprietary trading firm, a hedge fund, an SRO, a Broker-Dealer, a Futures Commission Merchant, or a similar organization. Other acceptable experiences include law firm experience with a focus on corporate and/or securities law, and/or regulatory litigation experience. An active law license is required for this position.

What you'll do

Exercise strong judgment to provide legal and regulatory guidance to the firm’s business lines and Management Team.Identify, research, analyze, and work with our teams to address risks related to a range of legal topics such as software licenses, data licenses, IP licensing, leases, services agreements, vendor agreements, confidentiality agreements, insurance contracts, and other commercial agreements as needed.Negotiate, draft, and review trading agreements with independent traders or trading teams.Update and maintain corporate governance documents of U.S. and non-U.S.-based entities including operating agreements, partnership agreements, employment agreements, organizational charts, and corporate registrations.Advise the Business Team on various commercial transactions from initial structuring to term sheets and LOIs, to final documentation.Keep abreast of regulatory developments, including rulemaking by the firm’s regulators and self-regulatory organizations and analyze potential business impact.Continually update legal templates, desktop procedures, and processes to help the business scale with a consistent approach.Work with the Compliance Team to draft and review WSPs prior to implementation.Work hand in hand with Compliance to promote a culture of compliance and accountability.Efficiently engage outside legal counsel to address issues in a cost-effective manner.Undertaking special projects as assigned.Mentor and lead other attorneys.

What you'll need

Juris doctorate required.Deep expertise in broker-dealer and commodities trading laws and regulations and their applicability to large proprietary trading firms.Prior experience managing a small legal team, preferably within a broker-dealer, self-regulatory organization, federal securities, or commodities regulator setting.Ability to effectively translate and communicate legal and regulatory complexities to the Management Team.Excellent analytical, time management, and organization skills.A high degree of flexibility, adaptability, and collaboration.Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.Interest in developing areas of financial regulation, including foreign markets and digital assets.
