Landscape Maintenance Lead Irrigation Technician

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing landscape maintenance operations, managing a team of workers, and ensuring the proper functioning of irrigation systems to preserve the health and beauty of landscapes. Performs skilled work in both landscape maintenance and irrigation systems. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

- May include, but not limited to the following:

Lead and supervise a team of landscape maintenance workers.Assign tasks, provide guidance, and ensure the completion of daily maintenance activities according to schedule.Train new team members on proper maintenance techniques and safety procedures.Design, schedule, and assist with trenching for irrigation systems.Install pipes, fittings, spray heads, controls, and emergency shut-offs.Install new irrigation systems and perform upgrades or modifications as needed.Provide recommendations for landscape improvements and irrigation system upgrades.Program irrigation controllers and adjust watering schedules based on seasonal requirements and plant needs.Maintain and routinely clean water features throughout the Denton campus.Restore grounds to an orderly fashion following installation of systems.Maintain irrigation supply inventory and distribute materials.Coordinate work with proposed building and construction plans.Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance schedules.Perform preventive maintenance and repairs.Address issues and concerns in a professional and timely manner.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Prepare reports and documentation for clients, management, and regulatory compliance purposes.Perform other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

Four years experience in irrigation design and installation. Supervisory experience preferred.

REQUIREMENT

Relevant license for irrigation system management required. Valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas and a safe driving record such as required to attain Driver's Authorization from the university.

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- The following are essential:

Ability to operate trenching and boring equipment and shovel to prepare trenches.Ability and endurance to perform tasks for up to eight (8) hour periods.Ability and mobility to perform tasks on all terrains.Knowledge of PVC installation and techniques.Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

The employee may be required to travel. The physical demands of this position include: hearing, listening, talking, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, shoveling, kneeling, squatting, and lifting up to 50lbs and greater. The employee may be required to work on-call.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

All employees are responsible for maintaining an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, and harassment. Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.

Exposed to various elements, including cold, heat, temperature swings, noise, and hazardous materials. May require protective equipment that conforms to OSHA regulations.
