Sr. Solution Engineer (Database Specialist)

Position Summary

The Sr. Solution Engineer will be able to support and administer a diverse set of enterprise-wide application databases. This includes, but is not limited to, the design, implementation, administration (monitoring and optimizing DB performance, DB capacity planning for various requirements, setting proactive alerts to avoid potential DB issues, upgrade/patching databases, etc.), and maintenance of all company databases on Prem and in the Cloud. The position requires the support of business initiatives through researching, reviewing database designs, evaluating new database software, and presenting findings to project teams, IT leadership, and business leadership. An ideal candidate will have experience performing root cause analysis of database problems, identifying solutions and resolutions, as well as scripting experience for automation.

Position Responsibilities:

Deliver solutions (30%)Implements and monitors Database systems health and identify issues proactivelyCollaboration with Data Architects to design databases and implement physical database design.Responsible for identifying, standardizing, and implementing database security measures, including potential security breaches, authorized individual access through enterprise-grade access policy, and documenting security access methodsEnsures RDMS software and server runtimes are fully optimized.Performs database software installations, patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance.Identifies and implements Database capacity planning for the requirements in terms of DB/Systems resource requirementsDocumenting security access methodsCreate documentation for new proceduresUpdate procedures, change controls, on-call log, and problem or incident status and resolutionSet up automated proactive alerts for database performance to avoid potential issuesSupport & Availability Service (25%)

Provides 24x7 operational support for production database environments through an on-call system.Responsible for source control of database DDLs, DMLs, etc.Performs database performance monitoring, optimization, and tuning.Responsible for Database stability and system availability by SLAsSchedule and Maintain database backups and recovery solutions/practicesFollow the change management processUnderstand, support, and monitor enterprise-level database jobs for data extraction, transformation, and load.Monitor and report any unauthorized Database access/setup/cleanupTeam Development - Learning & Continuous Improvement (20%)

Collaborates with peers, peer teams, and management when complex system issues arise.Makes technical decisions following established policies and procedures to ensure database availability.Continual learning in Cloud solutions and future trends.Strategy - Align Roadmap & Strategy (25%)

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.7+ years administering enterprise database systems in DB2, SQL Server, On-prem and Cloud.Experience with databases in the cloud.Experience with Azure and Data Factory preferred, including cost management and monitoringExperience with Databricks is a plusBicep scripting experience a plusMust be a self-learner and come up to speed quicklyDeeper implementation experience in database security standards, guidelines, and best practicesKnowledge of IT Security best practicesProblem-solving and critical thinkingAIX command line experienceAbility to explain complex ideas in simple termsAnalyze, solve, and correct database-related issues in real-timeDiagnose and troubleshoot database errors/alerts promptlyCreate automation of repeated database tasksExperience with upgrades, backup/recovery, patching, and support of production and lower-level databases.Ability to optimize and improve database performance.UNIX Shell scripting experience (Korn and Bourne Shell).ODBC connected query tools experience (SQL*Plus, TOAD, SQL Developer, AQT).SQL development skills to assist programmers with query performance tuning.Experience creating tables, views, stored procedures, SQL, dynamic SQL, indexes, and data constraints.Experience with data models, database design, and development.Ability to interpret data and analyze results.SAN-attached devices and (NFS) mounted file systems experience.Three years of Experience with Data Warehousing and optimization, including modern technologies/methodologiesITIL is a plus.Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc.
