Advising/Counseling, Administrative Professionals- AP, 1/2 Time (50-64.9%), Union, Remote-FriendlyPosition SummaryThis position will provide short-term comprehensive psychotherapy services in-person and via telehealth for MSU employees (faculty, staff, graduate student employees, and retirees) and their benefits-eligible family members. The services provided by the counselor include but are not limited to clinical assessment; short-term counseling (1 to 6 sessions) to individuals, couples, and/or families; case management; and referral services for clients that require services beyond those provided by the EAP. The counselor will plan and implement supportive group services, workshops, wellness classes, and/or other sessions to help targeted populations develop knowledge and skills to respond to or prevent emotional problems. The counselor will participate in staff meetings, multicultural seminars, peer review, clinical supervision, continuing education programs, and other organizational meetings. Moreover, the counselor will complete other duties as specified and assigned.About the EAPThe Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential short-term counseling and referral service provided at no cost to MSU faculty, staff, graduate assistants, retirees, and their insurance-eligible dependents who are located within the state of Michigan. We provide emotional assistance and counseling support to all eligible individuals as they attempt to work through a wide range of clinical and personal issues, such as work-related stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, relationship challenges, family conflict, trauma, or grief and loss. EAP Website .Unit Specific Education/Experience/SkillsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters in Counseling Psychology or Masters in Social Work; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a clinical psychology setting, crisis intervention or education; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Full licensure or limited licensure in the state of Michigan.Desired QualificationsMaster's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field. Demonstrated competency/expertise and commitment in working with one or more of the following groups/populations: diverse, multicultural populations including international and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color; LGBTQ+ populations; and persons with disabilities. Demonstrated competency or expertise in working with a wide range of clinical issues, including mood/anxiety disorders, trauma (including PTSD and complex trauma), psychiatric crises, critical incidents, and substance abuse disorders. Experience and comfort with brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention. Experience working in an EAP setting. Experience and comfort with the delivery of telehealth services. Experience and comfort with public speaking and development of outreach programming. Experience with electronic record keeping. Ability to make sound decisions in emergencies. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
