Job Description – Associate Pastor of Worship

Principle Function

The Associate Pastor of Worship will be responsible for designing and leading a modern, authentic worship experience for the multi-generation members of First Baptist Church of Perry. The Associate Pastor of Worship will perform his duties in accordance with the teachings of God’s Word and the church’s approved statement of faith, the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

Immediate Supervision

The Associate Pastor of Worship is under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor. The Church Council and Human Resources Committee may also provide direction, supervision, and accountability at the Organizational level.

Education / Skills

Bachelor’s Degree / Seminary degree preferred

Proficient in one or more instruments – preferably guitar and/or keyboard

Primary Duties / Responsibilities

Meets weekly with Senior Pastor to plan and coordinate all corporate worship services.

Conduct effective weekly team rehearsals in preparation for Sunday worship services to ensure ministry volunteers (musicians, vocalists, audio/visual) are adequately prepared.

Responsible for assignment and coordination of all instrumental, ensemble, praise team, and solo music used in all worship services.

Advise and assist in matters of weddings, funerals, and special events in compliance with facility usage policy.

Provide direction and supervision to the Worship Ministry Team (audio/visual, musicians, vocalists, volunteers), including ongoing training, retreats, and team meetings as needed.

Develop annual goals and objectives for the worship ministry.

Coordinate the programming for all age-specific music ministries (preschool, children’s, youth, and adult).

Recruit, train, and equip ministry volunteers to support the vision of the worship ministry.

Prepare, present and manage the annual worship ministry budget.

Oversee the planning and presentation of musical/dramatic productions for seasons such as Christmas, Easter and/or other special events (ordinations, recognitions, installations, etc.).

Assist with the ongoing pastoral care of the congregation including home and hospital visits.

Serve as weekly on-call pastor in rotation with other pastors.

Serve on various committees and leadership teams as needed.

Attend weekly staff meetings, annual planning sessions, and staff retreats.

Serve as ministry advisor to the Church Council.

Provide ministry-related announcements through all communication channels.

Deal effectively and respectfully with other staff, church members, and the general public.

Model the life of a Christ-follower and worship ministry leader.

Be proactive in personal and professional growth to continually improve upon musical and leadership abilities.

Be willing to submit to the leadership of the Senior Pastor and perform other ministerial duties as assigned.
