Everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day.Thayer Detox (12 Queen St. Worcester) is an acute, intensive, inpatient treatment program for men and women 18 and older who suffer from substance use disorders. The program provides individual comprehensive case management services to each client along with at least four treatment groups per day, run by all team members.I. Major Responsibilities:

Performs duties using recovery-oriented principles.Demonstrate person-centered, strength-based communication and relationships with clients.Demonstrate effective communication with staff, peers, and other professionals.Observe, document, teach, and respond to mental and physical health as well as other needs of clients.Serve as a residential counselor for a specified number of residents as directed.Assist in creating a safe therapeutic milieu by fostering a culture of recovery.Implement treatment plans, interventions, and properly document using progress/service notes.Assist with the client admission process by completing all required documentation accurately.Search clients and their belongings for contraband upon admission and as required.Work with clients to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).Ensure healthy menu planning, food shopping, and meal preparation through coordination and assistance.Monitor clients' medication, refills, documentation, and assist with attending appointments.Work with clients to maintain the residence on a daily basis including chores and housekeeping duties.Provide physical assistance and close supervision as needed.Transport clients in a personal or company vehicle as required.Maintain compliance with applicable regulations for DMH, HUD, BSAS, and DPH.Assist individuals with intervention work as outlined in their treatment plans.Lead skill development and/or other groups as assigned.Redirect clients as needed to provide a safe environment.Provide crisis intervention and support.Perform program cleaning and clerical work as assigned.Notify supervisor of any identified problem or deficiency in the program.Review resident records, medication logs, and treatment plans for completeness and accuracy.Answer telephone in a professional manner while documenting relevant information.Monitor client location and condition per program regulations.Perform other related job duties.II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:Grade C02: Residential Counselor I: Minimum of a high school diploma/GED/HiSet required.Grade C04: Residential Counselor II: Requires a Bachelor's degree; preferably in psychology or human services.Must have a current valid US-issued driver's license and a registered, inspected, and insured automobile.Must be able to pass a CORI background check.Must be able to pass a DCF/CPS background check for certain programs.Preferred:Associates degree preferred.Certification in addiction counseling or a minimum of 2 years' experience in the substance abuse field is preferred.Experience/Skills:Understanding of addiction and recovery.Awake Overnight Residential Counselors: Must remain awake and alert during the overnight shift.Preferred:Previous human services experience preferred.Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.We're striving to make respect a part of everything we do at UMass Memorial Health.
