We equip disabled students with appropriate accommodations and services to achieve their academic goals.Position SummaryInvolves planning, developing, and implementing programs for students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state law. The Disability Specialist works in an interdisciplinary team to provide coordination of academic services to students with disabilities.Application Review DateThe First Review Date for this job is: 07/19/2024.ResponsibilitiesCaseload Management:Specializes in working with students with disabilities in an academic environment.Determines eligibility and accommodations required for individual students.Consults with Supervisor regarding complex accommodation needs.Verifies documentation of students with disabilities.Conducts individual assessments to determine appropriate academic accommodations.Ensures timeliness of applicant review and eligibility determination.Works as an interdisciplinary team member to ensure required accommodations are provided.Faculty Coordination and Communication:Communicates student accommodation needs to faculty.Coordinates with faculty to ensure timely accommodations.Outreach and Consultation:Conducts outreach to other campus entities regarding disability access.Serves as a resource to faculty and staff on disability issues.Referrals:Refers students to other supportive services.Participation in professional organizations.Other duties assigned.Required QualificationsKnowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities.Thorough knowledge of procedures for assessing disability accommodation issues.Organizational and planning skills for caseload management.Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with students.Excellent oral and written communications skills.Advanced computer knowledge and proficiency.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Advanced degree in Special Education, Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related experience.Preferred QualificationsExperience working with college students with disabilities.Salary & BenefitsThis is a 2yr, full-time (40 hours/week), contract appointment, eligible for UC benefits.
