The Boston University Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department is seeking a Campus Health and Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team. This position assists the EHS Director of Campus Operations in providing support to worker safety programs, fire safety, inspections, training, and requests for services. The position supports a culture of safety by helping to ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Campus Health and Safety Specialist provides service across multiple academic and operational departments, serving as a highly visible and energetic champion of employee safety throughout the organization. This role requires daily interaction with faculty, staff and students at the Charles River and Fenway campuses. Customer service skills are essential. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy environment across Boston University with a working knowledge of health and safety standards, fire codes, and building code. Tuition Remission Information .Job ResponsibilitiesExecute OSHA health and safety programs under the guidance of the Director.Conduct fire drills in dormitories and other departments as requested.Conduct inspections to identify environmental health and safety hazards.Generate reports from inspections, fire drills, and incident investigations.Provide health and safety training for faculty, staff and students.Stay current with health and safety best practices, standards, and regulations.Participate in the EHS on-call program. Respond to campus incidents.Required SkillsB.A./B.S. in safety or related degree, strong communication skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and one to three years of safety, industrial hygiene, or related experience and training, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting. 3+ years of experience with associate's degree or related certificate program could substitute for a Bachelor's Degree. Strong knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations. Candidate will have or shall obtain 40-Hour OSHA hazardous waste operations and emergency response training certification. Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local fire safety regulations. As part of the emergency response program, candidate will be part of a rotating on-call schedule requiring response outside of normal business hours and must participate in a medical surveillance and annual physical program through Occupational Health.
