The Department of Earth & Planetary Science, within the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division of the College of Letters and Science is one of the top ranked programs in the USA with 6 major specializations and several interdisciplinary programs in atmospheric science, climate, environmental geoscience, marine geophysics and planetary science. It has links to programs in the Departments of Chemistry, Astronomy, Geography and Environmental Science and Policy Management. The department consists of 40 faculty, including adjuncts and emeritus, approximately 60 graduate and 150 undergraduate majors, 30 post-docs and visitors, several researchers and 9 staff FTE.The Academic HR Analyst supports the Chair of the Earth & Planetary Science Department and the Director of the Berkeley Seismological Lab in recommending, developing, implementing, administering, coordinating and evaluating Academic Human Resource policies, labor contracts, statutes, programs, and procedures covering academic recruitment, appointment, terminations, advancement, compensation, salary administration faculty welfare programs, visa procurement, faculty misconduct, faculty equity and position management. Additionally, this position will onboard departmental postdoctoral scholars, liaison with the Berkeley Regional Services and participate in special projects and assignments pertaining to Academic Personnel Administration.Application Review Date

Department HR Policy Expert:

Provides strategic advice and counsel to Department Manager, EPS Chair and BSL Director by analyzing and interpreting system-wide and organizational policies, collective bargaining agreements, academic personnel procedures and practices.Advises departmental supervisors in resolving benefits issues, and providing guidance on compensation, personnel policies and procedures, and labor relations.Provides research and analysis to resolve difficult HR problems/grievances, and advises the Chair and Department Manager as needed.Ensures the processing and maintenance of department HR records, including annual audit of records, proper disposal, and comprehensive record keeping for both paper and electronic records.Responsible for keeping current of all University rules and regulations changes as they pertain to faculty, lecturer, academic student employee and academic coordinator appointments.

Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) and UC Path Liaison:

Submits ERSO requests for UC Path/payroll transactions for all faculty, emeriti, lecturers, and ASEs.Audits BRS' transactions, reviews entries, and assures proper follow-up on actions.Maintains non-academic staff personnel files for both permanent and temporary staff.Provides advice and guidance on documented faculty or other academic staff compensation programs.Maintains and tracks sabbatical credits.

Responsible for the submission of all hiring or re-appointments for academic employees:

including summer session appointments.Strategic Partner to the department manager and financial analyst in UCPath position management.Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Requires thorough knowledge of and ability to apply/interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address complex issues and present nuanced analyses.Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality, using sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.Knowledge of Google tools, Microsoft Office including Excel, Zoom, and Adobe.Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of trends in academia, especially in areas of academic planning, human resource management and administration.Salary & Benefits

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $74,300 to $99,000 yearly, commensurate with experience.Conviction History Background
