Description

The Department of Psychiatry at the Renaissance School of Medicine is seeking an innovative and technically-skilled investigator to establish a research program focused on the development, validation, and implementation of digital technologies for individuals with mental illness. These technologies may include algorithms, wearable sensors, and apps for digital phenotyping, ecologically valid assessment (e.g., cognition, emotion, sleep, physical activity, etc.) or interventions. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize artificial intelligence methods for impactful research and to advance real-world clinical practice. Resources for equipment, space, and additional research support are available to support this important initiative. Synergistic collaboration with other faculty in the department (e.g., neuroimaging, epidemiology) and across the institution (e.g., computer science, biomedical informatics, psychology etc.) is encouraged.

Stony Brook Psychiatry is home to a world-class, interdisciplinary team of investigators with robust, extramurally funded research programs. Current focus areas include schizophrenia, depression, dementia, and substance use disorders. The Department also leads multiple large cohort studies for understanding normal and psychopathological developmental trajectories. Stony Brook maintains a broad range of pre-clinical and clinical research cores, including fMRI, PET, ECT, and TMS and the full range of clinical psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services. Department faculty collaborate with members of the Institute for AI-Driven Discovery and Innovation, an interdisciplinary collaboration of 19 labs from computer science, neuroscience, biomedical informatics, and physics.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have the below credentials or have them in possession by start date.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D., or M.D., or M.D/Ph.D. Degree (or foreign equivalent). Full-time availability. Research publications and funding on digital health technologies that have relevance for psychiatric populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence data analysis techniques; experience with analyzing and interpreting high-dimensional “big data”; demonstration of academic accomplishment, including prior and current research experience and productivity; and track record of NIH funded research.
