Position SummaryConduct field activities related to city services, planning operations (including Open Space and Placemaking), and transportation planning related to the enhancement of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA). This position is 40 hours per week with full-time benefits.

Essential Responsibilities

Support the Longwood Collective, Inc. Outside Placemaking program. Duties include staff assistance during events, program set-up, photographic documentation, permit expediting, and asset management.

Support the Longwood Collective, Inc. Open Space program. Duties include field surveys of beautification seasonal plantings, photographic documentation, tree inventory and mapping, and hardscape inspections.

Support Longwood Collective, Inc. transportation planning activities. Duties include traffic counts, field measurements, bike planning initiatives, photographic documentation, and general research requests.

Provide support and potentially lead future Area Planning Operations projects, programs, and initiatives.

Perform regular surveys of roadway and sidewalk conditions. Assist with the annual ADA evaluation report.

Conduct streetlight outage surveys twice a year. May require work after normal business hours.

Conduct field inspections of pavement markings twice a year as part of the emergency thermoplastic program, including photographic documentation before and after painting.

Assist with city service reporting and follow up, including but not limited to catch basin cleaning, graffiti removal, and pothole repair.

Conduct after snowstorm surveys either on foot or in a vehicle assessing impact to travel lanes, bus stops, crosswalks, sidewalks, and illegal parking. Assist with snow removal reporting and tracking.

Provide photographic documentation for the annual construction coordination and city services report.

Assist with the Longwood Collective, Inc. assets evaluation. Document any items that need maintenance or replacement. Conduct shop visits for assets that are in production.

Act as the on-site representative during asset installation and repairs.

Collect and analyze data, including manual field data collection and digital mapping using ESRI software.

Prepare graphics as needed, including generating maps, diagrams, renderings, and promotional graphics.

Research and maintain knowledge of local planning projects and developments.

Maintain and update Construction Coordination calendar, including communicating with contractors and stakeholders and regularly publishing construction advisories.

Communicate with consultants and external agencies as needed.

General Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance to agencies, members, and area planning department as needed.

Provide other general planning assistance as required, including update and maintenance of departmental planning products.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (unless otherwise noted)

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in construction management, civil engineering, urban planning, or related field.

Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign).

Some knowledge of ESRI or other GIS systems.

Provide excellent customer service through strong verbal and written communication with a mature interpersonal style. The ability to collaborate professionally with a diverse range of people.

Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Ability and willingness to occasionally travel, if needed.

Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum 4 days per week in the LMA, possibly 5 days. Maintain regular attendance.

May at times be required to be on your feet for most of the day outdoors, rain or shine.
