GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:Under direction of the Manager of PET Production Chemistry, the PET Radiopharmaceutical Manufacturing Chemist provides a variety of services to support the safe and efficient production and use of PET radiopharmaceuticals for research and clinical diagnostic use at MGH. The incumbent will be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the PET radiopharmaceutical production facility operating under cGMP, including radiochemical production area, analytical laboratory, and clean room operations.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under cGMP's, will be responsible for the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals including:Setup and preparation of chemicals and reagentsOperation of automated radiochemistry synthesis unitsCleaning of automated radiochemistry synthesis unitsMaintenance of automated radiochemistry synthesis unitsUnder cGMP's, will be involved in the aseptic preparation of PET radiopharmaceuticals in a cGMP clean room environment.Preparation of sterile filtration assembliesEnvironmental monitoring of aseptic processesInoculation of sterility mediaUnder cGMP's, will be involved in the quality control and release of PET radiopharmaceuticalsUse of HPLC, TLC, GC, biological and radiometric tests required for release of PET radiopharmaceuticalsActively involved in maintenance of cGMP clean room and production facility.Involved in inventory management and stockingPackaging of radiopharmaceuticals for transportSKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Experience or knowledge of TLC, HPLC, and GCExperience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPointUnderstanding of universal precautions and infection controlEffective interpersonal, writing, and communication skillsAttention to detailMust be able to lift 60 lbsMust have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to work in high-pressure situationsEDUCATION:Required: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related disciplineEquivalent Experience: 4 - 6 years of directly related experience required in lieu of Bachelor's degreeEXPERIENCE:Preferred: Experience in cGMP pharmaceutical production desired. Experience in the handling of radioactive materials, aseptic preparation, and clean room experience preferred.WORKING CONDITIONS:The MGH PET Production facility is an FDA registered PET Radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
