Your individual contributions will make a difference.MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCreate CAD models in SolidWorks and/or Tekla to produce high-quality product designsProduce and/or ensure production of detailed manufacturing shop drawings in SolidWorks and/or TeklaVerify designs are buildable and drawings are readable by working closely with production team to understand production capabilitiesProvide design improvements for commonly used parts and features to increase functionality and/or decrease manufacturing costsManage project schedules and ensure timely completionMaintain design standards that comply with ISO9001 and AISC proceduresEnsure compliance with contract requirementsFacilitate budget complianceManage a team of designersKEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPSMust have a solid understanding of mechanical design principles and be able to lead a team by word and in practice. Must be able to communicate clearly with clients/customers including government and non-government personnel in a professional manner. Understand the needs and requirements of the contract. Create buildable drawings according to standardization and describe them in detail. Work well with production staff, construction workers, and different trades.QualificationsMore than two years of experience in a design management/leadership roleMore than five years of experience as a designer or a similarly applicable positionStrong understanding of first principles of engineeringCreative problem-solverStrong organizational and communication skillsProficient in designing parts using 3D CAD tools (ex. SolidWorks and/or Tekla software)Proficient in SolidWorks weldmentsStrong mechanical design aptitudeFamiliar with metal part fabrication techniques, including machining, cutting, welding, forming, painting, etc.Maintain a collaborative environment between all members of the project groupAble to create 2D drawings from 3D models or parts using common drafting standardsAble to create large/complex assembly models with multiple sub-assembliesCoordinate/collaborate with others to create new and/or modify existing technical drawings that communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information in support of engineering functionsProvide technical expertise to train/develop design team membersAble to verify information provided is accurately represented and all industry standards are metAble to perform tolerance analyses on designsCapable of performing Independent Technical ReviewsExperience working with metal fabricationMust be able to lift 50 lbs.Must pass pre-employment drug screen test, if hiredAble to pass background check needed to enter federal basesQualified to work in USAPreferredBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or relevant technical degree)5+ years of experience leading/managing design teamsProficient in running finite element analyses (FEA) in SolidWorksExperience working on government-contracted jobsProficiency with VBA, C++, C# or other similar programming languagesResponsibilitiesLead a team of designersManage multiple complex projects at the same timeEnsure designs meet manufacturing, technical, certification, and customer requirementsEnsure that all design projects are completed on time and within budgetImprove processes that will result in an increase of efficiency, safety, and/or profitability within the design team or othersDraw, update, and maintain designs and drawingsThe ideal candidate will lead a team of technical individuals responsible for executing and leading the full design process from ideation through production. The ideal candidate will also create new designs and update current designs, as needed.
