Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks a warm and responsible professional individual to join our team as a Driver/Chaperone. Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator and the Dean of Students, the Driver/Chaperone will be responsible for driving the company automobiles on school errands and taking students and other Walnut Hill School staff to their destination safely and efficiently. This position is a flexible part-time (as needed) academic year position. Schedule may include nights and weekends.

Specific duties include:

Transporting students to and from appointments in the Natick, Boston, Greater Boston, and Metrowest areas;Accompanying students as needed and as appropriate to certain appointments as directed by School Administration;Checking road conditions; estimating travel times (allowing for extra time in inclement weather and clearing snow/ice from vehicles ahead of travel time);Performing other errands and duties, including delivery or pick-up services and airport transportation, as requested;Preparing vehicle for transportation, checking vehicle for maintenance and service needs; cleaning interior and exterior of vehicles, reporting all mechanical and other problems and following up as needed; transporting vehicles to and from maintenance appointments, etc. as needed and directed by Facilities staff;Following and being familiar with all traffic and safety rules, laws, procedures, and regulations; texting and personal phone use while driving is prohibited; andOther duties and responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications:

5+ years driving experience;Ability to read maps and navigation devices;Ability to assess road conditions, estimate travel times, and respond to inclement weather or travel conditions appropriately;Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive community;Professional demeanor and ability to work well with students, faculty, staff, and community members;Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills;Demonstrated history of reliability and consistent timeliness and punctuality;Successful background check and Motor Vehicle Record check; andValid Driver's License required.

Physical Demands

Physical demands of this position include the ability to sit for long periods of time, and the ability to use hand and foot controls to drive. Employee must be able to physically operate and control the vehicle while driving. Reaching, twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, bending, kneeling, talking, and/or hearing are common. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. Walking, ascending/descending stairs, stooping, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to move continuously during work hours and ability to lift and/or carry 25-50 pounds is required. Work environment may include extreme temperatures both inside and outside, precipitation due to the New England weather, and machinery noise. Proper use of applicable personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
