This position is responsible for performing Civil and Structural Engineering analyses and managing consulting projects. Tasks include performing consulting and loss investigations, site inspections, engineering analysis, and engineering calculations. Work product includes presenting findings in the form of technical reports, delivering findings via conference call or presentations, developing exhibits, and providing sworn oral testimony. This position is targeted as a Senior Consultant. However, if a candidate has greater experience, we would consider hiring at a Senior Managing Consultant level or higher if the candidate has an established book of clients.Key Responsibilities:The candidate is expected to develop local clients and projects in the Civil/Structural Engineering areas by working in concert with regional business development support, local office colleagues, and civil engineering colleagues based in other ESi offices.The candidate will perform marketing and business development activities to identify potential clients and strategies to build a client base. The candidate would be responsible for representing ESI and its consultants to potential clients and at conferences and meetings. Business development activities also may include making presentations and introductions to obtain additional clients and projects and/or expand ESI's business.It is expected that the candidate is highly skilled in Civil and Structural Engineering and would also be able to perform internal networking and work collaboratively and contribute to projects managed by other consultants within ESi.The candidate's area of practice is expected to include construction defect cases, property liability and compliance cases, and damage assessments, and the scope of repairs. The candidate is also expected to perform analysis on temporary support systems for repair and construction as well as analysis and design of structures and foundations.Prior litigation support experience (in the form of testifying in deposition or trial) is a plus. Experience preparing reports in support of dispute resolution is a plus.The candidate is a skilled communicator and would be comfortable to confidently communicate with clients or potential clients and is sufficiently experienced to prepare or review project proposals or plans to determine the required tasks, schedule, budget, and procedures for accomplishing project objectives.The candidate is a strong technical writer and understands how to structure and present findings and conclusions in technical reports, presentations, and graphical exhibits.The candidate would make recommendations to clients, potential clients, and the Civil/Structural Practice Director to accept or decline potential new projects based on their professional training, expertise, and business experience. During the execution of a project, the candidate would recommend increases or decreases in the scope of the ESi work as appropriate.The candidate is capable of planning, managing, and coordinating his/her own work along with project activities with ESi consultants and others to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within a prescribed time frame and within a budget that is acceptable to the client. Based on the nature of a case, the candidate may perform these duties and tasks independently or may collaborate with other consultants, technologists, and support staff.The candidate may be required to testify in deposition and or trial as an expert witness or may assist in supporting another expert to testify.The candidate will perform their work adhering to all ESi best practices and QA/QC procedures. It is expected that they will also contribute to the QA/QC process by reviewing the work of other colleagues in the Civil/Structural practice.The candidate is expected to perform field inspections of a diverse range of structures including residential, commercial, marine, transportation, and industrial structures or equipment, etc. to determine cause and origin of reported or suspected damages as well as to prepare condition assessments and, when required, to develop alternatives.The candidate will work collaboratively with other project staff to plan and complete project work plans and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of tasks.The candidate will perform ongoing continuing education, including preparing technical presentations, white papers, and/or peer-reviewed papers relevant to their areas of practice.The candidate will also serve as a mentor to junior consultants to facilitate their growth and development.QualificationsEducation Requirements:Civil Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited educational institution, BS (MS preferred) degree, or international degree equivalent(s) and/or accomplishments. Should hold a Professional Engineer's License (Civil Engineering PE and/or SE in the State of California). EIT plus the ability to obtain a PE license within the first year may be considered.Experience Requirements:5-10 years experience in civil and structural engineeringExperience and familiarity in inspection and engineering of residential and industrial facilitiesStructural inspection and condition assessment experience preferredComputer Skills:Must be agile in Microsoft Office and Adobe software applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Acrobat, and Lightroom, and other software appropriate to the practice. Must have some computer graphics skills, and CAD capability is a plus. Must be able to do fieldwork using testing and measurement equipment commonly used in the relevant practice discipline.Compensation will be made up of a competitive base salary as well as bonus potential determined by your own individual performance and the performance of the organization overall.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
