Environmental Assessment Services, LLC (EAS) is an established environmental services firm based in Richland, Washington. Founded in 2005, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Natives of Kodiak since 2015, EAS specializes in environmental site characterization and assessment, compliance and permitting, natural and cultural resource management, and planning, among other disciplines.

EAS is currently looking for an

Archaeologist I.

This is a

full-time

remote

position with travel required for projects as needed.

Essential Functions:

Complete all phases of archaeological investigation.

Expertise in field excavation techniques, archaeological inventory evaluation and data recovery efforts, analysis of prehistoric and historic artifacts, and preparation of compliance reports.

Able to consult and communicate with regulatory agency personnel such as various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs), Native American Tribes, and other interested parties.

Experience in project management duties such as scheduling, budgeting, invoices, etc.

Prepare Work Plans, design research and field methodologies, direct field crews including scheduling work, performing, and managing data interpretation, and overseeing report production.

Write archaeological reports and/or prepare archaeological site forms and make decisions about project alternatives, NRHP evaluations, and effects on historic properties in collaboration with a team.

Knowledge of Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended), Archeological Resources Protection Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and other pertinent laws and regulations governing historic resources.

Create National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) compliance reports and supporting documentation necessary to protect or mitigate significant archaeological, historic, and Native American sites.

Experience using GPS units, Total Stations, GIS (e.g., ESRI products), and Adobe software.

Serve as peer/technical reviewer for internal and external documents to ensure quality.

Work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet project deadlines.

Other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related discipline.

Master’s degree is preferred, not required.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Successfully completed an accredited archaeological field school.

Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to reliable transportation.

Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening upon the start of employment.

Ability to pass a background check.

Ability to travel 25% - 50%. May be times that travel will exceed 50% in a month and/or six-month period based on fieldwork.

Desired Qualifications:

5+ years of relevant work experience.

Experience in the Great Basin, mid-Atlantic, southeast, and southwestern United States.

Experience working on military installations.

Experience in conducting architectural resource surveys.

Experience working with state and federal agencies.

Experience managing projects from start to finish (project management duties).

Experience managing in the field projects as well as being able to conduct field work.

Ability to read/decipher field notes and write relevant results is required.

Experience in authoring reports (SOI qualified) preferred, not required.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships with clients, internal staff/departments, and outside agencies.

Flexible to adapt to evolving project requirements and client requests.

Strong attention to detail, and organizational and analytical skills.

RPA preferred, not required.

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required, often for extended periods, to walk, stand, or sit in both indoor and outdoor environments with various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions. While on job sites, there may be manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt. The employee might occasionally lift and/or move small or large objects up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to walk and hike multiple miles over various terrain. This role also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles, prepare and analyze data, and work with Microsoft Office suite of software.
