The School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking applications for two full-time (12-month), clinical-track faculty appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of General Dentistry. The major duties of successful applicants include pre-clinical, clinical, and didactic teaching of all aspects of general dentistry at the dental student and general practice resident levels. Additional responsibilities involve supporting the school's compliance with SBU, SBM and SDM best practices, demonstrating growth in pedagogical skills and an aptitude for scholarship, serving on select school committees, engaging in school governance, and participating in the school's affiliated faculty practice.Opportunities to further develop or refine teaching skills are offered at the university's Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. The potential to earn a Master's in Higher Education Administration (MHEA) is also available and viewed favorably for those willing to make the effort.Individuals should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that develops strong and supportive relationships with faculty, staff, students and residents, and promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Required Qualifications:DDS/DMD degree from a CODA-accredited dental school/college. Certificate from a CODA-accredited General Practice Residency (GPR) or an Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry (AEGD). Five years or more of clinical experience in general dentistry. Have, or be eligible, for a New York State Dental license. Formal training and practice experience in CAD/CAM digital and implant dentistry. Experience in and an appreciation for the interdisciplinary care of patients with dental specialists.Preferred Qualifications:Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience at a CODA-accredited dental school/college or hospital setting. Advanced degree in education or dental materials or oral biology. A record of research and/or scholarly activity. Participation in organized dentistry at the local, state or national level. Desire to enroll in the Master's in Higher Education Administration program.Application Instructions
