Stony Brook University (SBU) is a State University of New York (SUNY) flagship, an internationally renowned public research institution (R1), and a member of the Association of American Universities. The School of Social Welfare (SSW) is one of five Health Sciences Schools, located within a rich interdisciplinary environment. Numerous opportunities exist for collaborative research and interprofessional training across disciplines on campus and beyond. The Health Sciences Center is located on the Stony Brook Campus alongside Stony Brook University Hospital, the Cancer Center, Stony Brook Children's Hospital, and the Long Island State Veterans Home. The SSW has an extension education center in Manhattan, through which students can pursue master's degrees in social work. The SSW is home to a collegial academic community committed to building a more equitable society based on the values of human dignity, inclusiveness, diversity, equality, and on economic, environmental, racial, and social justice.The SSW's distinguished faculty engage in practice-oriented and policy-relevant research in several areas including disability justice; gender equality; intervention research; aging; intimate partner violence; the social determinants of health and mental health; structural racism; environmental justice; and immigration, among other areas. The SSW has an enrollment of approximately 700 students in its BSW and MSW programs with curricula grounded in a student-centered and evidence-informed pedagogy. In the Fall of 2024, a cohort of doctoral students will begin in the newly re-configured PhD in social work program at the SSW. We are seeking a new faculty member to join our vibrant and engaged community, who will expand the research methodological strengths, areas of research, and instructional profile of the Stony Brook University's School of Social Welfare.Qualifications:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have an earned doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Social Work or a related field, a substantive record of research experience and scholarly publications, commitment to an interdisciplinary academic environment, and minimum of five years of social work relevant teaching experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants with an MSW degree (foreign equivalent or higher), a minimum of five years post-Masters social work research experience, a record of funded research, and a record of mentoring doctoral, post-doctoral, and/or emerging faculty members. We have identified six preferred areas of interest for potential applicants: 1) Aging and older adult well-being research; 2) Child and adolescent well-being research; 3) Forensic social work research; 4) Sexual and reproductive health research; 5) Social justice and equity research; 6) Substance use and addiction science research.Application Instructions:All application materials must be submitted online.
