The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, approximately 2,000 are educators, and more than 600 others directly support students and families in our schools.Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 40% of students are multilingual learners, and about 16% of students receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak more than 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

Executive Director of Professional Learning and School Improvement

plays a critical role in the Providence Public School District (PPSD) by leading the development and implementation of comprehensive professional learning and school improvement initiatives. This role is integral to transforming public education in Providence, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality education and the opportunity to achieve academic success.

**Contingent upon funding**Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum, School Leadership, or a related field. Additional coursework required for certification or licensure.Minimum of seven (7) years of teaching experience, with at least three (3) years in a school or district leadership position.Experience with school design, model development, and teaching adults is preferred.RIDE Requirement:Rhode Island Building Level Certification or Rhode Island District Level Administration CertificationRhode Island District Level CertificationRight to Read Proficiency Level (required within one year of hire).Professional Learning Leadership:Lead the district’s professional learning system, ensuring alignment with the Rhode Island Professional Learning Standards, Tap Goals, and Strategic Plan.Collaborate with various departments to develop and evaluate professional learning opportunities for educators, principals, and school instructional leadership teams.Oversee and direct district-wide professional development programs, ensuring coherence and alignment with district goals.Measuring impact of professional learning with a lens on Academic Return on Investment.School Improvement Initiatives:Drive research-based innovative programs that include evidence-based interventions, student-centered instructional methods, and continuous data monitoring to enhance Tier I instruction.Align school improvement resources to prioritize student achievement and maximize results.Support the execution of school redesign processes, collaborating with school leaders and community advisory boards.Support and provide oversight of the Strategic Plans and Comprehensive Strategic Plans.Strategic Planning and Collaboration:Coordinate strategic planning for professional learning and school improvement across the district, ensuring initiatives are aligned with school performance and student achievement goals.Collaborate with Human Resources to support induction programs for newly hired and early-career administrators, as well as ongoing professional development for veteran administrators.Work with central office staff to develop and implement high-quality summer learning, tutoring, and enrichment programs.Data-Driven Decision Making:Analyze and operationalize quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions, assess progress, and adjust action plans at school sites.Disaggregate data by student subgroups to identify disparities and ensure equity in learning experiences.Community and Partnership Engagement:Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, business entities, and higher education institutions to support school improvement and professional learning initiatives.Foster a culturally diverse and inclusive school environment that supports equity and high achievement for all students.Leadership and Supervision:Supervise and monitor the work of assigned learning services staff, ensuring the effectiveness of school-based staff in building instructional capacity.Lead the District Professional Learning Team, providing guidance and actionable feedback to educators and instructional coaches.Deep understanding of pedagogy, Project-Based Learning, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and instructional methods.Strong strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Ability to build trust with a range of stakeholders, including parents, students, and staff.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Bilingual language skills preferred.
