The Department is a leader in cutting-edge research and innovative educational programs. The Department employs over 50 professors pursuing research in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. The goals of this research include synthesizing complex natural products and new nano-materials required to solve the many health and environmental crises facing our planet, and illuminating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the decoding of genetic information.

QualificationsUnderstanding of the mission of a major research and teaching university (Required)Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a current working knowledge of university policies and funding agency policies that apply to proposal preparation and submission (Preferred)Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with funding agency staff. Ability to take instruction and follow through with director's requests. (Required)Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and productivity despite deadlines, frequent interruptions, distractions and competing priorities (Required)Ability to establish priorities and to meet deadlines (Required)Skilled in gathering information, analyzing complex issues, and formulating logical and objective conclusions and alternative solutions (Required)Concise, logical and grammatically correct oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people (Required)Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision (Required)Strong computer skills for e-mail and internet access and use of campus database systems (Preferred)
