Requirements / Qualifications

EducationRequired: Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a regionally-accredited college or university

Licenses & CertificationsRequired: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) LicensePreliminary School Nurse Credential (employer assists in obtaining once employed)Current BLS Certification (American Heart or American Red Cross)Current First Aid Certification (American Heart or American Red Cross)Valid Driver's License

Essential Responsibilities:Provides nursing services at assigned school sites or Early Education CentersThe School Nurse identifies health problems that could impact a student's ability to learn and provide intervention by helping families find resolution to identified health barriers to learningDetermines, provides, and supervises the appropriate skilled care for students with special health needs, such as diabetes, severe allergies, spina bifida, asthma, cardiac conditions, respirator dependency, seizures, and otherRefers students and parents to Special Programs-Central Nursing, School Wellness Centers, or appropriated community resources for necessary services related to physical or mental healthResponds to emergency needs of students, accidents, emergency illnesses, and crisis situations at schoolEvaluates immunizations required for school entry and follow-up for complianceProvides in-service education to school personnel on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator usage, First Aid, communicable disease control, asthma triggers, and diabetic careProvides appropriate health education for students, individually and in groups, in a variety of health topics; relates health instruction and guidance to specific health needs of studentsParticipates with school administrators and school personnel in developing Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans for students with special needs
