Industrial Structural Engineer

to join our structural practice in our

Chicago, IL, Oak Brook, IL or Kennesaw, GA

office or a hybrid work schedule may be available at the Company's discretion. This position will focus on supporting our clients in adapting their existing industrial process and/or treatment facilities for retrofit or expansion.

In this role, you will apply engineering skills to projects including the design of retrofit foundations, proposed building and equipment foundations, expansion of existing framing systems, design of steel frame and building systems, and incorporation of new process lines into existing and proposed facilities. This position offers significant potential in leading and managing your own team of engineers. In addition, this position will support our burgeoning Geostructural and Construction Engineering Branch with complex foundations and underpinning, deep support of excavation, and multifaceted retaining wall projects while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Analysis, design, and detailing of structural steel framing systems;

Foundation design including pile caps, mats, spread footings;

Structural design and detailing of work platforms, underground structures and excavation support systems;

Modeling, analysis, design, and detailing of unconventional structures;

Erection engineering and global stability analysis, controlled demolition;

Building Condition Assessments for Retrofit Design;

Preparing technical documents including reports, calculation packages, and construction specifications;

Contribute to the development of project proposals and budgets;

Coordinating with CAD Designers on the development of Contract Plans;

Project and Technical Management of projects;

Provide leadership and technical training to early career professionals.

Education and Licensure

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. (required)

Advanced degree in civil/structural engineering. (preferred)

Professional registration as P.E. (required) S.E. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

At least 5 years directly relevant experience in a design environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)

Experience in the design and detailing of steel members, connections, and reinforced concrete. (required)

Experience in repair/retrofit design of industrial facilities. (preferred)

Experience in erection/lift plans and/or demolition plans. (preferred)

The ability to sit for the NCEES 16 Hour Structural Engineering exam within two years of hire. (preferred)

Knowledge of relevant structural engineering design and detailing software (RISA, ETABS, STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, etc.). (required)

Knowledge of design collaboration software (Bluebeam Studio), and operation of CAD/VDC/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.). (preferred)

Knowledge of general numerical modeling tools. (preferred)

Experience working within the construction sector or performing design work for contractors/construction managers. (preferred)

Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, and meeting strict deadlines. (required)

Current OSHA 10-hr training. (preferred)

Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
