Associate Director of Biotherapeutics

EvolveImmune Therapeutics, Inc., Hartford, Connecticut, United States,

EvolveImmune Therapeutics is a next-generation, development-stage immune-oncology company which is developing novel trispecific T cell engagers with integrated CD2 costimulation to optimize anti-tumor immunity to overcome the therapeutic challenges of cancer cell resistance. Our lead program based on our EVOLVE therapeutic platform will enter the clinic in 2025. We conduct our R&D, including internal protein engineering and biotherapeutics discovery, immunobiology and translational sciences, at our dedicated, state-of-the-art laboratories located in Branford, CT.The Role:We are seeking an entrepreneurial, industry-experienced leader as Associate Director of Biotherapeutics to support preclinical and early translational research activities for current and future portfolio programs. This role entails engineering novel drug candidates utilizing our co-stimulatory EVOLVE platform and working collaboratively with other functions in Biotherapeutics and Immunobiology to advance candidate molecules through preclinical research. Other responsibilities include generating molecules at scale to support in vitro and in vivo experiments, and developability optimization of lead candidates. Collaboration, mentorship and the ability to manage the complexities of working in an emerging biotechnology are important competencies required for success in this role.Responsibilities:· Provide leadership to a protein engineering group within biotherapeutics focused on design, expression and characterization of bi- and multispecific antibodies.· Design, conduct and interpret experiments to assess the biophysical characteristics and developability of bi- and multispecifics, antibody fusions and novel therapeutic formats.· May lead preclinical bispecific/multispecific antibody engineering projects from exploratory phase to candidate selection and serve as point of contact between the biotherapeutics, translational and development groups.· Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in drug discovery, including immunobiology, translational sciences, and CMC, to advance our pipeline of candidates.Experience:· Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology or a related discipline with 8+ years of relevant industry experience, including several years with managerial responsibilities.· Proven leadership abilities, including mentoring direct reports and leading multifunctional project teams in therapeutic antibody development.· Previous experience working with bispecific antibodies and deep understanding of antibody biology and engineering is required.· Extensive hands-on experience with protein expression in mammalian systems (HEK, CHO, transients and stable pools), and purification by various chromatographic methods using FPLC (affinity, IEX, SEC).· Experience with biochemical and biophysical characterization of biomolecules by ELISA, BLI/SPR, and SE-HPLC is required.· Deep understanding and hands-on experience with developability assessment of biotherapeutics using DSC, AC-SINS, CIC, HIC, and polyreactivity assays.· Knowledge on structural protein engineering and molecular evolution techniques is a plus.· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, adept at meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects.· Experience managing contract research organizations for protein expression and/or antibody discovery is a plus.
