The Legal Specialist must be organized and detail-oriented to handle legal accounts. Through analysis and review, accounts will be flagged legal and monitored to ensure maximum recovery for the credit union.DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

:Monitor monthly charge off reportsHandle incoming calls from branch personnel, customers, and external vendors to resolve legal inquiries regarding charged off accountsResearch charged off accounts to determine best course of legal action for maximum recoveryAttends court as needed to represent Navigator Credit UnionMonitors In-house payment accounts for monthly payments on charged off accountsPosts payments for charge offs from attorney, collection agency or member. Negotiates payment on accounts· Other duties as assigned by managerEXPERIENCE:· 4+ years’ collection experienceEDUCATION:· High School diploma or equivalent is required.SPECIFIC SKILLS:· Must have strong knowledge of collections; laws, regulations and ability to analyze accounts that need to be reviewed by legal team.· Above average communication skills both verbal and written· Must be an excellent time manager able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines· Ability to de-escalate situations by committing to problem solving· Must have strong interpersonal skills in order to work with team and external customers· Must be detail oriented and efficient· Able to understand and use technology to accomplish work tasks and researchADA REQUIREMENTS:PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:· Sitting; walking; bending; squatting; kneeling; pushing/pulling; reaching; twisting; frequent lifting of less than 10 lbs.; occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.WORKING CONDITIONS:· Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:· Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of member service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
