Objective/OverviewDentists provide general and emergency pediatric and adult dentistry care to CUHCC's (Community-University Health Care Center) diverse patients and serve as a preceptor to dental students and residents from the University of Minnesota. Services include a broad range of diagnostic, restorative, and oral surgery to pediatric and adult patients. Each dentist is expected to provide exams, training, and/or oversight to a hygienist and student or therapist as well as a dental assistant(s). In addition, CUHCC dentists must sign the Collaborative Management Agreement for CUHCC's Advanced Dental Therapist(s). As clinical providers, dentists participate on quality improvement projects and other committees as designated. CUHCC dentists must provide respectful care to diverse populations and be able to meet the productivity and quality measures established by the clinic. This will require each dentist to deliver care to multiple chairs simultaneously and collaborate with other members of the oral health care team.The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:Cultural sensitivity/competency.Verbal and written communication skills.Customer service and people skills.Ability to lead and work on a team.Clinical competence in a range of diagnostic and restorative dentistry for both a pediatric and adult population.Ability to meet productivity standards.Essential FunctionsProvide Clinical Dentistry (85%)Provide general and emergency pediatric (up to 65% of the patient population) and adult dentistry care in community health care setting to include a broad range of diagnostic, restorative, and oral surgery.Develop and document treatment plans for patients.Work in a team and provide exams and oversight to the work of dental hygienists, therapist(s), and students/residents.Work out of multiple dental chairs to optimize productivity.Maintain accurate and timely notes in the electronic health record.Provide dental education to patients.Collaborate with medical and behavioral health providers and staff to ensure that patients receive coordinated holistic care.Work with interpreters and interpretative services for patients.Stay current with developments in the field through continuing education.Attend and contribute to dental team and other CUHCC meetings and trainings.Participate in the dental peer review process.Maintain licensure as DDS in Minnesota.Precept Dental Therapy Students (10%)Provide instruction and supervision to senior dental students and other students/residents who are delivering direct patient care.Participate in administration of dental education programs as needed.Use/follow the preceptor training and/or standards for supervising students developed by the School of Dentistry.General supervision to Advanced Dental Therapist(s).Dentists must agree to annually sign the ADT Collaborative Management Agreement and provide general supervision to the Advanced Dental Therapist(s) according to the terms outlined in the agreement.Participate in Quality Improvement / Assurance and other Committees (5%)As assigned, actively participate in collaborative care committees and other committees as assigned.Complete the projects assigned in collaborative care committees and communicate the work and findings of the community to the dental staff.QualificationsAll required qualifications must be included in the application materialsRequired QualificationsD.D.S. required. Licensed to practice in Minnesota or eligible for licensure.Clinical experience required.Current CPR certification.Preferred QualificationsExperience practicing dentistry in a multi-ethnic community clinic.Fluent in Spanish, Somali, Hmong language, Vietnamese, Lao, Pashtu or Dari.Completion of a residency program in pediatric dentistry or general dentistry.About the DepartmentCUHCC serves nearly 11,000 patients a year through over 55,000 visits annually.
