Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Microbiology, genetics, cell biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, public health or related field. Two years of direct research experience in molecular microbiology or molecular parasitology. Advanced experience with research related/laboratory activities.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with the methods and procedures of a molecular microbiology, cell biology, or parasitology laboratory.
Brief Description of Duties:The Senior Research Support Specialist will provide a broader range of complex laboratory and research related tasks. Working under general supervision in support of a research project or program for Dr. Galadriel Hovel-Miner in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, the incumbent will operate equipment, carry out test procedures as well as collate and interpret data using special methods.
The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties:Conduct experiments; provide research support by conducting specialized experimental methods, collecting data, data analysis, and data interpretation.Work collaboratively and communicate with other members of the lab, department, and school to share discoveries and advance knowledge through informal discussions, and formal lab and departmental meetings.General laboratory management, which includes media preparation, supply ordering, equipment ordering and upkeep, laboratory organization, record keeping, maintaining updated laboratory computers, and maintaining overall cleanliness and organization of the lab.Sharing and communicating research findings to the broader research community. Prepare figures from experimental data for presentations, publications, and grant applications.Assist the head of laboratory in drafting results and methods sections for manuscripts and grants.Present research findings at regional, national, and international meetings when deemed appropriate by the head of laboratory.Other duties as assigned.Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
