Job Summary

Directs FIU's International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). Provides leadership, oversight, implementation of policies and compliance assurance, and management of budget for ISSS. Maintains student and scholar pre-arrival, orientation, advisement, welfare, insurance, and cultural and social programs at the highest levels of service excellence. Implements new and innovative programs in a high-tech environment.Provides direction and oversight of all ISSS operations including supervision of staff; space management; office communications through online, print and social media; and development and management of the office budget.Maintains current and implements new and innovative student and scholar social programs. Generates information materials and host sessions for students and scholars including handbooks and brochures and workshops on immigration matters, income tax, OPT, and employment. Ensures that ISSS offers highest standard of service excellence to students and scholars, including arrival, orientation, advisement, welfare, insurance, and cultural reception.Works closely with several departments and advisors to keep the administration up to date with all compliance issues and international student regulations.Serves as the liaison between the Office of Accreditation and Accountability and the University's academic units for the development, implementation, and evaluation of international student exchange agreements, while managing the International Student Exchange Program, maintaining the university's institutional credit balance with exchange partners and overseeing the outgoing and incoming student exchange process.Meets with faculty on a regular basis to review student surveys and feedback, and to develop new strategies for better serving our students on the study abroad programs.Oversees and provides support for the development and implementation of pre-departure and re-entry workshops and orientations for outgoing and incoming students.Directs participation and events, including the annual Welcome Back Reception and International Education Week celebrations.Serves as member of the International Travel Committee, promotes and ensures compliance with international travel policies and protocols, and responds to program and student emergencies abroad.Assures compliance with any Federal, State and university policies, including USCIS and Board of Governors regulations. Recommends and interprets policies regarding international students and scholars. Responds to audit requests and reports on behalf of ISSS; responsible for implementation of audit findings/recommendations.Oversees the management of the SEVIS monitoring system with USICE. Serve as the institution's Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for the Department of Homeland Security providing compliance oversight to all of the institution's Designated School Officials (DSOs). Responsible for the institution's SEVIS recertification through SEVP. Frequent interaction with USICE officials.Serves as the institution's Responsible Officer (RO) for the Department of State's Exchange Visitor Program. Manages exchange students and scholars in collaboration with Office of Study Abroad, colleges, schools and other units. Evaluates and issues exchange students and visitor's official documentation.Serves as primary ISSS officer for the Global 1st Year pathway program and international students therein.Serves as the merchant account's primary contact. Handles sensitive cardholder information and/or processes credit cards transactions for the department/unit.Serves as the Procard Approver for departmental transactions. Assures compliance and adherence to University credit card policies and procedures. Serves as a University card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University credit card policies and procedures. Handles cash transactions on a daily basis.Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree and six (6) years of appropriate experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with cross-cultural programming for international students.Experience with managing immigration process and policies for International faculty, staff, and students.
