JOB TITLE : Medical Collector / Accounts Receivable SpecialistJOB SUMMARY:Medical Collectors are responsible for handling all parts of insurance claims and denials, as well as checking the status of claims for healthcare services. The duties may include:Reviewing billing information, debt, and unpaid insurance claimsContacting the insurance company with outstanding bills (Medicare, PPO, HMO etc) to determine payment statusProviding correspondence and appeal denials and following up on appeals in processOrganizing, researching, and preparing appealsContacting patients with outstanding bills to determine a repayment planProviding detailed reports to managementEDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or Equivalent2 years of medical collections experience requiredGood verbal and written communication skillsKnowledge of computers with experience in windows-based systems and Microsoft OfficeExperience with medical practice billing software necessaryProficient in medical terminologyAbility to communicate effectively with center management, center staff, patients, their families, the physicians, and their staffAbility to handle frequent interruptions that result in having to re-evaluate prioritiesDetail orientedKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Has initiative, resourcefulness, analytical ability, problem solving skills, and can deal effectively and harmoniously with all groups and individualsMust be able to communicate articulately, comprehend written and verbal communications; and must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced work environmentExperience in developing financial systems and proceduresAbility to handle multiple projects in parallel with one another, including during deadline periodsAbility to determine patient financial responsibility as determined by the insurance company from EOBs, contract languageEffective appeal writing skills in collaboration with physicians for medical necessitySelf-starter; able to work effectively with limited supervisionRegular attendance habitsStrong expertise with spreadsheets and accounting systemsOther responsibilities as the business growsThis description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements.
